NSW Petanque League

We hope that 2021 will be a great year for petanque in our state! Throughout 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the competitions were cancelled both in NSW and across Australia.  We hope that competitions will be able to proceed smoothly in 2021 as we try to resume some sort of normality. We want the NSWPL to be a responsive organisation that is run for all and by all the members, to develop our sport and increase the playing opportunities no matter whether it is for casual, social games within a club or serious competition for those inclined to 'sport-petanque', i.e. for people who play regularly, compete often and have aspirations to improve their skills and/or seek to represent the State or even Australia.

We believe that open communication and information provided is important for people to engage in informed discussion and understand why certain actions are taken. Communication is key. If we change things, our members need to know the reasons why, directly from The Executive and not via hearsay. This website is part of that and so is ‘Waratah Words’, our newsletter which we plan to publish quarterly. To that end we ask for volunteers to assist in the production of both. If you have media skills, we are happy for help! Waratah Words will be uploaded to the 'Documents' page of this site so you can look at the back issues.

We want petanque in NSWPL to be positive. We want it to grow. We want it to improve. We want you to support what we are doing because 'we' are 'you'!
What is ‘the League’?
The NSW Petanque League (NSWPL) is all of the clubs that have affiliated to the organisation, participate in its events and follow its rules and constitution. It is not just the 4 members of the Executive, but all players who are members of the clubs as well.

The ‘Committee’ is the Executive plus a representative of each club who all have voting rights. The State Umpire Manager also sits on the League but does not have voting rights. Some players are not aware of the distinction. When we say ‘the League needs to lift its game’ we mean all of us, not just the Executive! So, let’s
all make a contribution to a better NSWPL!
